Boxing: Pedro Taduran reclaims IBF minimumweight title from Ginjiro Shigeoka

OTSU (Kyodo) — Pedro Taduran of the Philippines battered Japan’s Ginjiro Shigeoka to reclaim his IBF minimumweight championship on Sunday with a ninth-round technical knockout.

Shigeoka, attempting his third title defense, found himself pinned against the ropes in the middle rounds at Shiga Daihatsu Arena and was unable to stem the punishment from the top-ranked contender.

Taduran improved to 17-4 with one draw with 13 wins by knockout, while Shigeoka had to be taken from the ring on a stretcher following his first pro defeat in 12 fights with nine KO wins.
